While hiking in Warren Dunes State Park on the southern shore of Lake Michigan on 25 March 2007, I was able to call up a barred owl.
This owl, although generally active at dawn and dusk, can be active during the day. A couple of short calls from my tape player brought a response.
On a later date, I was able to find the nest cavity about 50' high in an American beech tree. I observed one of the two owls I saw that day leave and re-enter the tree cavity, an idication they are nesting.
Saw one as well
Brad,
I saw one last weekend, too. I was driving on WI Hwy 13 somewhere between Port Wing and Superior and this huge Barred Owl was sitting on a reflector post along the highway! Unreal. I nearly drove into oncomming traffic craning my neck for an extended view!
