Press Commentary on Great Lakes Restoration Plan

Toledo Blade and Detroit Free Press columnists weighed in this week on the $475 million restoration plan.

Tom Henry in the Blade suggests that the EPA plan looks like "more of the same" that hasn't yielded results. Instead the emphasis should be "doing things better" and he cites the need to focus on a neglected problem with the region's most vulnerable lake, Lake Erie.

In the Freep, Eric Sharp says ..."what we need to do is make some very hard decisions about what can be done rather than what we'd like to see done, and then provide the proper tools and funding to the people who can make it happen."

Sharp's article perhaps distorts the definition of restoration, but his comment above is being increasingly made by policy professionals.
