George H. Kuper
President and CEO of the Council of Great Lakes Industries
Kuper joined the Council of Great Lakes Industries (CGLI), an association of large U.S. and Canadian and U.S. industrial organizations with major investments in the Great Lakes region, in 1994. In his role as CGLI’s CEO, Kuper has represented industry interests in numerous Great Lakes policy venues.
Before joining the CGLI, Kuper served in various sustainable development policy leadership roles including President and CEO of the Industrial Technology Institute in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Executive Director of the Manufacturing Studies Board of the National Academy of Science in Washington, D. C. In 1975, he was nominated by President Ford and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as Executive Director of the National Center for Productivity and Quality of Working Life.
In industry, Kuper was responsible for company-wide productivity improvement programs at the General Electric Company. He has been the founding principal in four corporations and a director of five additional companies.
He was the principal founder of the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences and has led a number of national association activities.
Kuper holds a B.A. in political science from the Johns Hopkins University, a masters in international law from the London School of Economics, and a MBA from the Harvard Business School.
